Special Session 1

Title : Unleashing the potential of edge computing in Europe

Related topics:

  • Not limited to resource discovery and management,
  • Resource orchestration
  • AI/ML pipelines
  • Secured microtransactions
  • Data pipeline
  • Ad-hoc edges
  • Energy efficiency

Brief Description : Connectedness has grown up in the last year with the increased usage of smart devices now integrated in citizens daily life. This IoT digital mesh has split traditional edge approaches into three different concepts: near, far and data center edges. The situation is highlighting, even more, the need of improved control planes to manage several different resources offloading in multiple ways, and not only on an edge to cloud bidirectional approach. In this context, the workshop aims to bring together multidisciplinary researchers dealing with current challenges such as network connectivity or intelligent resource management among others to present how they are dealing with them.

Aims and Scope : The aim of this workshop is to provide a venue where both researchers and practitioners on edge-related challenges can meet, disseminate and exchange ideas around the topic of edge computing paradigm and its integration in the continuum. The aim of this event is to come up with related challenges, to identify key issues to be addressed by the community and to explore potential solutions to them. The objective is also to come up with an agenda that can drive the research activities for next years. Possible topics include notably (not limited to):

  • Intelligent resource management.
  • Efficient integration of ML/AI pipelines
  • Benchmarking infrastructures providers.
  • Decision-making AI-based.
  • Ad-hoc edge cloud clusters.
  • Network and connectivity issues.
  • Next Generation IoT.
  • Light-weighted composed services lifecycle management.
  • Smarter control planes and adaptation engines.
  • Fog analytics.
  • Data management.
  • Security and Blockchain.
